What is the Classroom Arts Project?
Essentially CAP offers schools rich on-line art resources for elementary and middle school students in the arts. School that have designated teachers enroll in this project are assigned a Virtual Resident Artist to work with during the entire academic school year. The goal of this interaction is to help teachers fully integrate the arts into all core academic areas.
We can still enroll a limited numbers of schools in this project. Obviously, CAP teachers need to make a commitment to work on a regular basis with their artist and make a good-faith effort to create integrated lessons. We are able to provide some digital equipment free to schools in this project and we do offer incentives for teachers meeting our expectations. However, we have numerous free resources under this project that you can use.
This is an excellent on-line drawing program for students. It can work for special need students and gifted students of all ages. Students see an image on the PC screen. They are given several on-line implements to replicate that image. As they work, the picture disappears and the student is required to rely on their memory. A grid is overlaid on the image to help orienting students to key features of the picture. The grind remains on the screen when the image disappears. This is what teachers said about using this CAP product:
'It is adaptable to all students’ learning styles; it’s fun and easy to use'
'It builds student capabilities and confidence in drawing'
'It provide fun extensions for students that complete assignments quickly'
'It increases art experiences in the regular classroom'
'Meets PA Technology Standards'
No technology staff specialists were needed for me to use this in my classroom
But CAP is more. and offer educators the opportunity to post student art work on line. These sites have dialog boxes to allow students to post information about their art and receive feedback from artists and peers. All responses are posted only with classroom teacher sign-off.
Over 250 exciting art-related cyber sites are listed for teachers to access; sites can be searched by grade level and academic domain to different art domains. Generally these cyber sites demonstrate integrated learning activities.
